You may have heard of the Dear John column. He is the male equivalent of the Agony Aunt column. This is where folks of all hues write or phone in to bear their souls, telling it like it is, telling the whole world all about their personal or family problems. But such shows do have its silver linings. If the talk show host is a qualified therapist, he or she may be able to offer advice. But it will only be generalized in the sense that he or she would still need to do a face value assessment in order to achieve more accurate and successful outcomes.
It is business as usual for the ethical talk show host to refer his or her callers elsewhere. He or she will be providing the listeners with contactable references of those relevant to the problems that were just exposed on air. The problem with this forum, however, is that you will not find too many men calling it. It remains unfortunately natural for them to keep their problems to themselves. They will fight to live another day.
Worse is to come. They bottle up all their pent-up feelings until one day, it doesn’t just come out, it literally explodes. And the worse things become for poor old John, the more difficult and dangerous life could become until a day when he reaches that point of no return. Not dear John. Poor john. This is a guy who urgently needs to enroll himself on a john school diversion program. And if he does not volunteer himself he could just find himself being summoned to do so.
If this should happen to him, he should count himself lucky. It is a lot better than having to go to jail.
